We are all just stardust
Strewn across the galaxy.
I can’t be crushed by the weight
Of your expectations
Like the atmosphere on Venus.
It’s enough to bear these craters
On the surface of my soul
From the asteroids you’ve thrown.
I need something more akin
To the gravity on Mercury.
So I’ll soar by
Through space and time
A comet
In an orbit of my own.
The universe scares me.
I often struggle
With things I can’t control
And space
Is the ultimate unknown.
But I have learned
That I would take
A chance with fate in space
Over the certainty
Of death by staying with you.
I need the weightlessness of
Gravity on Mercury.
I would seek the risky possibility
Of revolving in a galaxy
With a sun whose light
Eclipses all your shadow.
Space is cold,
But I have realized
That I don’t have to be
Pulverized
As a price to pay
For supernova mistakes
That aren’t my own.
I am not alone,
Aloft with all these stars
Who sail along and
Make it feel like home.
They show me the beauty
That this journey can hold,
A far cry from where I’ve come from
And everything I was told.
Out here I’m free.
You can’t hurt me.
I can have some space to breathe.
I’m allowed to have gravity on Mercury.
